PRELIMINARY AND SEMIFINALS ROUNDS SCORES ATTACHED
Welcome to the Moot Court Competition in Rio de Janeiro!
2nd Annual Competition: March 1st – 3rd, 2012
The Sustainable Development Moot Court Competition was established to train attorneys on how to use the Inter-American human rights system as a forum for addressing human rights violations – broadly defined -- in the Americas and the Caribbean.
In a Moot Court Competition law students take part in simulated court proceedings as if conducted in the Inter-American Court human rights system, which includes drafting briefs and participating in oral arguments.
The Competition requires students to argue a hypothetical case written on a topic currently being debated within the Inter-American Court of Human Rights. The 2012 hypothetical case talks about the implications and consequences of mining and industrialization on impoverished urban communities and also raises other human and environmental rights questions.
This Competition is distinctive in that it will be held in three languages with simultaneous translation (English, Spanish, and Portuguese).
