The project aims at exploring the legitimacy role of a number of trade courts and tribunals. It will be primarily based on legal analysis but will also include contributions from political scientists and legal philosophers. The first part of the research will examine selected trade tribunals in accordance with the relevant research questions; and the second part will comprise comparative studies across different trade tribunals, including ASEAN; ANDEAN Community; Federal Court of Canada; CEMAC (Economic and Monetary Community of Central Africa); Central American Court of Justice; CIS (Commonwealth of Independent States); EAC (East Africa Community); EFTA; EU; MERCOSUR; WAEMU (West African Economic and Monetary Union); WTO; and U.S. Court of International Trade. New developments, such as increased access of non-parties and the public (the increasing transnational character of the tribunals) and interaction with national courts, will be emphasized.
