In April, FGV Rio Law Dean Sérgio Guerra and Professor Péricles Gonçalves participated at the 13th Annual Regulation Dinner and Distinguished Lecture on Regulation, organized by the Penn Program on Regulation of the University of Pennsylvania Carey Law School, in Philadelphia.
In this year’s edition, the distinguished lecture was delivered by Professor Richard Revesz, Administrator of the Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs of the White House Office of Management, and Dean Emeritus at the New York University School of Law.
The opening remarks were brought by Professor Cary Coglianese, Director of the Penn Program on Regulation, and Professor Sophia Lee, Penn Carey Law’s Dean, as they welcomed the guests and shared some initial thoughts, as well as introduced the keynote speaker.
In the first part of the event, Professor Richard Revesz gave his lecture, shining a spotlight on the critical role of evidence-based policymaking in regulatory decisions. He discussed the importance of incorporating rigorous scientific and economic analyses to ensure that regulations are effective and efficient.
Professor Revesz concluded the lecture by highlighting the role of decision rulemaking in regulatory frameworks, as well as the consensus that federal agencies must always base their decisions on evidence, expertise, and thorough analysis.
Finally, the event was closed with a dinner, offered to all participants, where Dean Sérgio Guerra and Professor Péricles Gonçalves had the opportunity to discuss a variety of issues with some colleagues and promote the new FGV Rio Law Global School Project.
