On the 21st of July, the event "Global Digital Governance: Exploring Challenges and Celebrating 20 Years of CTS-FGV" marked the celebration of the 20th anniversary of the Center for Technology and Society at FGV Rio Law.

The CTS plays a big role in contributing to the formulation of public policies for digital rights in Brazil across various domains and in expanding dialogue between authorities, the market, academia, and other stakeholders. Its cross-sectoral productions revolve the legal, social, and cultural implications arising from the advancement of information and communication technologies. It focuses on various topics, such as connectivity, cybersecurity, platform governance, and new technologies like artificial intelligence. In doing so, the CTS is committed to transparency, democracy, fundamental rights, inclusion, gender balance, non-discrimination, and the preservation of the public interest in technological progress. These values are embedded in all of its projects.

The CTS is also home to the CyberBRICS project (find out more). This project is based on the consideration that in the next decade, the projected growth of the Internet is expected to occur predominantly in Asia, Latin America, and Africa, and particularly in the BRICS countries. The next billion Internet users, along with the innovation and data they will produce and the policies they will need, are likely to come from the BRICS. In light of this, BRICS countries are increasing their cooperation in the fields of science and technology and promoting synergies with regard to digital policies. CyberBRICS aims to provide responses to the rising challenges by offering valuable insights into the digital policies of the BRICS based on rigorously collected evidence that can be used by researchers, regulators, and businesses.
