On April 10th, FGV Rio Law Dean Sérgio Guerra had the pleasure to participate at the 2nd edition of the Architectures of the Global: Global Legal Education, held in Madrid – Spain, at IE Law School.
Promoted by IE Law School, Architectures of the Global is an engaging conference that gathers prominent thought leaders, educators, and legal professionals from across the globe to investigate the evolution of global legal education in response an increasingly interconnected world and its new challenges. The conference is structured into four panels, where prestigious panelists from around the world analyse how these global issues influence legal education and present strategies to address them.
In this edition, the conference aimed to explore the future of legal education in light of some of the most discussed global challenges, such are Equality, Sustainability, Global Governance, and Digital Disruption, to examine whether current models of global legal education can offer viable solutions to confront the challenges ahead, as well as to highlight key advancements and showcase best practices.
The opening remarks were brought by Soledad Atienza Becerril, IE Law School Dean and Co-President of the Law Schools Global League (LSGL), Lord Jonathan Mance, former Deputy President of the UK Supreme Court, and Santiago Íñiguez, President of IE University, as they welcomed the guests and reflect on some initial thoughts to open the event.
The fruitful discussions focused on the key role of legal education in promoting social justice, equality, and democratic inclusion in a globalized and liquid world as “active agents of change”, pointed by Verónica Ruiz Abou-Nigm, Chair Professor at Edinburgh Law School. Panelists also addressed the challenges posed by the development of global governance, sustainability, and global governance.
Finally, the debates concluded that Law Schools should constantly adapt their curricula to integrate artificial intelligence and other digital tools into teaching and practice, ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance), transnational perspectives, and foster international collaboration with other institutions and Law Schools.
FGV Rio Law remains at the forefront of global debates on the evolving landscape of legal education, promoting dialogue and best practices to integrate the new challenges of Equality, Sustainability, Global Governance, and Digital Disruption into the compulsory curricula.
