In February 2025, the University of Edinburgh hosted the Law Schools Global League (LSGL) Academic Winter Conference and Deans’ Meeting, bringing together legal scholars and administrators from top institutions worldwide. Rodrigo Vianna, Associate Dean for International Affairs at FGV Rio Law, represented the institution, reinforcing its commitment to global legal education. He also participated in the Global Partners meeting of the Global LLB Program, a collaborative initiative where Edinburgh Law School students spend part of their legal studies at one of ten carefully selected international institutions, among which FGV Rio Law, providing them with valuable international exposure and fostering cross-border legal understanding.
The conference, themed “Global Law, Community, and Solidarity,” explored contemporary challenges in legal education and practice. Discussions spanned topics such as international solidarity, legal governance, transnational cooperation, and the role of legal institutions in shaping global policies. Experts from diverse legal backgrounds shared insights on fostering collaboration across jurisdictions, ensuring that legal education evolves to address pressing global challenges. The event also provided a unique platform for academic institutions to exchange ideas, strengthen partnerships, and develop initiatives aimed at enhancing the global reach of legal studies.
Beyond the conference, one of FGV Rio Law’s researchers could celebrate another significant milestone in connection with the LSGL. José Luiz Nunes from FGV Rio Law’s Center for Technology and Society, along with a team of international researchers, secured research funding from the LSGL Research Project Initiative. Their project, “Uncovering Jurisdictional, Linguistic, and Cultural Influences on Fundamental Legal Beliefs,” will analyze how different cultures interpret legal norms, morality, and justice. This interdisciplinary study, led by Kevin Tobia (Georgetown University) and Izabela Skoczeń (Jagiellonian University), seeks to provide new comparative insights into legal applications across jurisdictions.
By actively engaging in LSGL initiatives, FGV Rio Law continues to enhance its global presence, foster cross-border legal education, and contribute to cutting-edge international legal research, reinforcing its role as a key player in shaping the future of legal scholarship.
