From October 22nd to November 6th, the second edition of the Regulation Week took place, promoting dialogue on regulation across key global and national venues. Events were held in Washington, D.C. (USA) at Georgetown University, in Berlin (Germany) at FGV Europe, in London (UK) at Queen Mary University, in São Paulo, at the headquarters of Brazil’s Stock Exchange (B3), in Rio de Janeiro, at FGV’s headquarters, and in Brasília, at the National Agency of Terrestrial Transport (ANTT) and FGV Brasília, where the closing event was hosted.
In partnership with the Georgetown Brazilian Law Association and the Center on Transnational Business and the Law, the inaugural event in Washington, D.C., addressed “Capital Market Regulation: Dialogue between the US and Brazil.” The event featured FGV Rio Law Dean Sérgio Guerra, SAF Botafogo Executive Vice President Jorge Decorte Marmello, and João Pedro Nascimento, President of Brazil’s Securities and Exchange Commission (CVM).
In Berlin, the discussions focused on “Brazil and Europe: Challenges and Opportunities in the Regulation of Renewable Fuels.” Panels and roundtables were led by FGV Europe Dean Cesar Cunha Campos and FGV Rio Law Professor Rômulo Sampaio.
At Brazil’s Stock Exchange (B3) in São Paulo, the FGV Rio Law Insurance and Pension Regulation Committee hosted discussions on “Review of Investment Regulations: Challenges and Opportunities.” Simultaneously, at Queen Mary University of London, the focus was on “UK-Brazil Data Governance Dialogue: Navigating Regulatory Challenges and Developing Effective Strategies.”
At FGV headquarters in Rio de Janeiro, the event explored “Proposals for a Coordination and Oversight Model for Regulatory Improvement in Brazil.” Speakers included FGV Rio Law Dean Sérgio Guerra, Dominic Mancini (Deputy Administrator of the U.S. Office of Management and Budget’s Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs), and Anna Pietikäinen (Head of Division, Regulatory Policy and Public Governance at OECD).
The closing event was held at FGV Brasília, organized by the Higher Education Regulatory Committee under the coordination of Professor Leonardo de Castro Mira. The discussions focused on regulatory challenges in Brazil’s higher education sector.
The Regulation Week is a cornerstone of FGV Rio Law’s strategy to position itself as a national and international hub for research and activities involving regulated sectors, while promoting Brazil as a global business and economic leader.
Organized by FGV Rio Law’s research committees, the events brought together academics, regulators, legal professionals, and other stakeholders to address pressing issues in regulated sectors both in Brazil and around the world. Through these discussions, the Regulation Week reinforced its role in fostering innovation and collaboration in regulatory policy and governance.
