The project aims to present an overview of the operation of the credit card market in Brazil, analyze its legal and economic implications, and propose possible paths for developing this segment of the Brazilian credit market.
Project Objectives
The Project had the following objectives: (i) to carry out a historical survey of credit granting practices through cards in Brazil; (ii) to identify and describe the risks of the credit card market for participants in card payment arrangements, such as issuers, accreditors, flags, commercial establishments, and consumers; and (iii) to analyze the relationship between the concession practices and forms of use of credit cards in Brazil and consumer indebtedness.

Legal and economic repercussions of the credit card market
This publication is the result of the research project Legal and Economic Repercussions of the Credit Card Market, of the Center for Advanced Studies on Regulation of the Brazilian Financial System (NEASF), linked to the Center for Research in Law and Economics (CPDE) of the FGV Rio Law. The research was carried out in an institutional partnership with Nu Pagamentos S.A. It aimed to provide an overview of the operation of the credit card market in Brazil, analyze its legal and economic implications, and propose possible paths for developing this segment of the Brazilian credit market.
